Local Expertise in Columbia County: We Know This Area
Columbia County sits on limestone country. The Ichetucknee River rises from a chain of springs a few miles from Fort White, the Santa Fe River runs along the south and drops underground at O'Leno State Park before re-emerging downstream, and sinkholes and springs are part of the landscape. Sandy ridges and pine flatwoods drain fast, while loamy ground and floodplain near the rivers hold water. Alligator Lake, with its large wetland basin, swings between wet and dry with the seasons. We plan clearing and grading around all of that.
We work the county's main routes: I-75 and I-10 at Lake City, US 90 through Lake City and Watertown, US 41 and US 441 through Ellisville and Lake City, US 27 into Fort White, SR 47 between Lake City and Fort White, and SR 100 and SR 238 out to the rural areas. We serve Lake City, Fort White, Watertown, Ellisville, Five Points, Deep Creek, Winfield and Lulu.
The projects here follow growth. Residential development off Baker Place Road, Horizon South Parkway and Gateway Boulevard, commercial sites near the I-75 and SR 47 interchange, and industrial land at the North Florida Mega Industrial Park bring lot clearing, grading and pad work. Meanwhile rural landowners in Fort White, Five Points and Watertown need forestry mulching, bush hogging, driveways and homesite preparation.
Columbia County has permitting and environmental factors that matter. The Suwannee River Water Management District has set minimum flows for the Santa Fe and Ichetucknee rivers and is working on springs protection, floodplain rules apply in the county's land development regulations, and the county's zoning office in Lake City handles land-use questions. Fort White has its own planning office. Debris burning takes a Florida Forest Service authorization with required setbacks, and the Forest Service uses prescribed fire in Osceola National Forest. Hurricane season runs June through November. We can explain what typically applies, but always confirm with the county or town before work starts.
